1. 授業概要
  • 企業や組織のマネジメントにおける判断・意思決定は、過去の経験や直感、他者の成功事例等に過度に依存することが少なくない。しかしながら、マネジメントにおいても、医療などと同様にエビデンスを重視することが重要になりつつある。この授業では、エビデンス・ベースド・マネジメント (Evidence-Based Management)と呼ばれる、科学的思考法に基づいたデータ・ドリブンの経営の意思決定手法について学ぶ。
  • この授業は、具体的には以下の5つのトピックから構成される。
    1. 行動経済学から見た実務家のバイアス
    2. バイアスを見抜くための科学的思考法
    3. マネジメントの意思決定に重要な領域の先端的論文の輪読
    4. データやフィールド実験に基づいた意思決定を学ぶためのケース・ディスカッション
    5. フィールド実験のデザインと分析の手法
  • この授業の中核は、米国の大学院で一般的なセミナー形式を採用する。担当教員がそのトピックに関連する定量分析の英語の論文を2-3本程度指定し、履修者は毎週少なくとも1本は、事前に論文を読み込むことが求められる。なお授業は週2コマなので、毎週4-6本の論文をカバーすることになる。また履修者は、学期を通じて数回程度、指定された論文の概要をプレゼンテーションにまとめ、発表することが求められる。各回は、担当教員による講義、履修者による発表、論文の内容に関するディスカッション により構成される。最終課題として、フィールド実験のプランの発表が求められる。
  • この授業は、本来であれば博士課程レベルの内容をMBAの学生に提供するものであり、難易度はやや高め授業であることが予測されるので、そのことを了解した者のみ履修して欲しい。授業の予習・復習には、基礎学力にもよるが、最低でも毎週3時間程度の時間を割くことが必要となる。
  • この授業は、「エビデンス・ベースド・マネジメント」というタイトルがついているが、実質的には「社会科学のための定量研究法」の授業でもある。負荷が高い授業ではあるが、定量研究の手法の基礎を身に着けるためには、結局のところ効率の良い方法である。なお、この授業に加えて、夏Qに開講される吉岡氏・徳橋氏が担当する「イノベーション研究のための定量分析法」を合わせて履修することにより、この領域の理解は飛躍的に深まる。

3.事前・事後学習の内容

  • 各回の授業では、予習として指定された英語の論文3-6本のうち、少なくとも1本は読み込んでくることが求められる。授業の予習・復習には、基礎学力にもよるが、最低でも毎週3時間程度の時間を割くことが必要となる。最終課題は、3時間程度の時間が想定される。
  • 英語が得意でない者には極めて負荷の高い授業である。また定量論文を読み込むためには、因果関係の推論などの科学的な思考力が求められる。その訓練をあまりしていない者は、他の履修者よりもより準備に時間を割いてもらうことが前提となる。
  • この授業は難易度が高いため、毎回の授業後にある程度の時間を割いて復習することを推奨する。

授業の出席 20% 毎回の授業で出席をとる。
課題の提出 20% 毎回アサインされた論文のサマリーの提出が求められる。
ディスカッションへの貢献 30% 授業時のディスカッションに貢献すること(TAが記録する)。
最終課題 20% フィールド実験の計画の提出が求められる。
論文の発表 (オプション) 10% 論文発表をサインアップし、発表すること (A+、Aを目指す方は必須)

7. 備考・関連URL

  • 授業は全てディスカッション形式である。必ず各回の授業の準備をしっかり行ってくること。議論の質は担当教員の力以外にも、履修者の準備の量によって規定される。
  • この授業は、時間通りに開始し、可能な限り時間通りに終了する。授業の質を下げないために、履修者は時間を守ること。全授業に出席することを前提としている。もし欠席する場合には、授業のTAまで事前に連絡すること。欠席した際には、カバーした内容を自分で責任持って学習すること。
  • 必要に応じて、授業終了後には懇親会を開催する。授業後に、読んだ論文の議論や各自の研究テーマの議論をすることは有益である。

8. 授業履修に際しての Honor Code

  • 早稲田ビジネススクールの定める「WBS 授業履修に際しての Honor Code」を遵守すること。

  • 全ての課題については、履修者同士で相談しても構いません。必要に応じて、グループで議論することを推奨する。

9. この授業におけるAIツール活用に関する方針 (Ethan Mollick氏のシラバスをベースに一部改編)

  • この授業では学生がAI (GenerativeAIのツールとしてのChatGPTを含む様々なAIツール)を活用することを期待している。AIを活用する力は現代社会における必須スキルである。これらのツールの活用の仕方について授業においても取り上げる。
  • ChatGPTの限界を理解した上で利用すること
    • あまり深く考えられていないプロンプトを入力すると、質の低い結果が出力される。良い結果を得るためには、プロンプトを工夫する必要がある。これにはそれなりの訓練が必要である。
    • 出力結果の内容を信頼してはならない。出力結果の中には数字や「事実」が含まれるが、自分が元々知識を持っているか、他の参考文献により確認しない限りは、誤ったものとして扱うこと。このツールを活用することで生じる内容の誤りについては、自分で全責任を持たなくてはならない。従って、自分が良く知っているトピックに関して、使いやすいツールであると言える。
    • AIはツールであるが、利用した場合にはその旨を示す必要がある。もしAIを利用した場合には、AIをどのように利用したか、結果を得るためにどのようなプロンプトを利用したかを、全ての課題において具体的に示すこと。AIの利用法を示さないことはHonor Codeの違反であり、不正行為となる。
    • このツールをどういう時に利用するべきかを自覚的に考えること。このツールを利用することが相応しくないと考えられる時には、利用しないこと。

10. “Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging”の尊重

  • この授業は、インクルーシブであることを前提としています。
  • この授業では、すべての学生が、人種、自認する性別、性的指向性、社会的地位、年齢、障害の有無、宗教、出身地域、国籍、言語の得意・不得意、その他個々人の多様性を生み出すものすべての観点において、同等に学ぶ権利を提供することを目指しています。
  • この授業がインクルーシブであるほど、多様性が生まれ、イノベーションや創造性が強化され、皆さんの学びの体験が向上します。
  • インクルーシブや授業の実現のためには、履修者の皆さんのご理解が不可欠です。どうか積極的に参加し、助け合って、そして皆さんのピアのことの理解を深めてください。多様性、人とは違うということを相互にリスペクトし、それを強みにしましょう。
  • 授業のオンライン化・ハイフレックス化は、学生が授業に「所属している」(Belonging)という感覚を減少させました。この授業では対面を重視することで、また多様な工夫を取り込むことにより、履修者の皆さんの”Belonging”を大切にして、より良いラーニング・コミュニティの構築を目指します。

11. 本授業を担当するにあたっての「学びの哲学」

私が本授業を担当するにあたっての「学びの哲学」は以下の通りです。

  • 質の高いLearning Communityの醸成: 教員と学生の両方が授業にコミットすることが前提です。
  • Peer Effect: 学生個々人の行動は、自分のみならず他者の学習の質に影響するという責任感を持つ人が集まる授業であること。そこに賛同いただけない方にまでInclusiveである必要はないと考えています。
  • Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging: あらゆるバックグラウンドの人がrespectされる授業でありたい。ただし、EquityなきDiversity and Inclusionは成り立たないと考えています。
  • クラブ財としての授業: Learning CommunityはLife Longです。学費を払ってるのだから良いサービスを受けて当然という思考性の方は、学費を払わなくなったら人間関係がそこで終了します。クラブ財は会費制による相互によるcommonsの構築・運営により成り立ちます。そのために一人ひとりの「貢献」を求めます。
  • Learning Scienceとしての実践: 「学びの科学」を前提として授業構成を考えています。教室は楽しくワクワクする空間である必要があります。講義形式(Explanation)ではなく、体験型(Experiential)な授業構成を最大限目指します。
  • 先端的なテクノロジーの活用: この授業は新しいテクノロジーを積極的に導入します。TAによるサポートを前提としますが、各自でITリテラシーを向上していただくことを求めます。
  • 実験と失敗: 授業では常に新しい授業の形を追求します。常に新しい「実験」を試みますが、当然失敗することも数多くあると思います。そのプロセスも含めて、皆様にイノベーションとは何かを学んでいただきます。
  • 聴講の学生のinclusionと貢献: 聴講も履修者と同じコミットを求めます。より厳密にいうと大学内での教員の評価は履修者数でなされますから、聴講を認めるというのは、教員としては自分の評価は上がらない形でボランタリーに学ぶ場を提供するということです。従いまして、履修者以上に、learning communityへ貢献していただくという前提で受け入れていることをご理解ください。
